This Ornate Ormolu Jewelry Box comes in a beautiful rectangular shape. All I can say is that this piece is absolutely fabulous! This Art Nouveau Footed Jewelry Box has an Ornate Ormolu and Beveled Glass lid that is fully intact, with no chips or cracks. The jewelry box has a small lip on its front center that makes it easy to lift the lid. The body of this jewelry box has the classic Ormolu motif, and the interior and base of the box is lined with a red velvet felt. This gorgeous vintage jewelry box is in EXCELLENT condition overall, showing very little wear and tear. The felt on the bottom of the box shows some spotting, which is typical due to the age of this piece. Ormolu is a "gold-colored alloy made up of copper, zinc, and sometimes tin in various proportions but usually at least 50% copper. It is used in mounts (ornaments on borders, edges, and as angle guards) for furniture and for other decorative purposes. After the molten alloy has been poured into a mold and allowed to cool, it is gilded with powdered gold mixed with mercury. It is then fired at a temperature that evaporates the mercury, leaving a gold surface. Ormolu was first produced in France in the mid-17th century, and France remained its main centre of production."
